The Sherbourne Health Centre Art Wall Committee seeks proposals for solo or group shows for installation at its building at 333 Sherbourne Street (between Carlton and Gerrard.)
The Art Wall is located at the main entrance and is the focal greeting point for all visitors to Sherbourne. It is 18 feet long by 10 feet high and designed for hanging works using “S” hooks. The building is open Monday to Thursday from 8:30 a.m. until 8 p.m. Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. It is closed on weekends, but arrangement can be made for special showings or receptions.
Sherbourne Health Centre provides innovative primary health care, counselling, support, outreach, health promotion, and education programs to its clients – the many individuals who reflect the diverse and vibrant communities of southeast Toronto.
The Art Wall Committee seeks a variety of proposals for artwork, to reflect the diverse nature of the community. The Committee is open to all levels of artistic production, from emerging to professional, from individual creativity to group productions, in all media except free-standing sculpture. Each submission will be evaluated on its own merits, and artists will be informed in writing of the result. An agreement between the artist and Sherbourne will be signed. Typically, shows will occur monthly.
Preference for submission is on Compact Disk (cd) including 10 to 15 images, accompanied by a hard copy of the artist’s statement and biography. Submissions will be mailed back if adequate postal information is provided (postage not required). If you need assistance or wish to submit your work in another way, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
The Art Wall Committee’s selection process is guided by Sherbourne’s desires to operate within an anti-oppression framework while honouring these values: cooperation, respect, quality, learning and diversity. In this spirit, we encourage submissions from Aboriginal people, people with disabilities, members of visible minority groups, youth, homeless and under-housed people, newcomers and immigrants, and people from the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and trans communities.
