LGBT Primary Health Care

At Sherbourne Health Centre, we offer a wide range of primary health care programs and services to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, transsexual, two-spirited, intersex, queer, or questioning individuals. Our goal is to provide you with dignified, non-judgemental services to help you feel better, cope better with day-to-day challenges, and address specific LGBT health issues.

Services Offered

Whether you’re a member of the LGBT community or just seeking information about LGBT health issues, you’ll benefit from the expertise we offer in addressing the physical, mental, and emotional needs of LGBT people and their families.

Our LGBT primary health care team works to promote health and wellness by addressing the specialized health issues of those who identify as LGBT in an open, safe, and welcoming environment.

LGBT services include:

• Treatment and monitoring of temporary and chronic illness
• Preventative health care including, routine physicals, vaccinations, and screening for disease
• Trans health care
• Mental health counselling
• LGBT youth health and mentoring (SOY)
• LGBTQ Parenting and Families
    -  The Assisted Human Reproduction Act and LGBTQ Communities
• Breast Health and Breast Cancer services for lesbian and bisexual women
• Health promotion and education, wellness workshops, and support groups
• Unscheduled care clinics for the homeless and underhoused
• Rainbow Health Ontario - LGBT province-wide health promotion

Other programs and services

We also offer the following complementary and alternative therapies:

• A Community Naturopathic clinic for people living with AIDS/HIV
• A Community Chiropractic clinic for local residents

Below are the boundaries for the client services offered by Sherbourne Health Centre:

• Family Health Team (General and Newcomer Populations): Southeast Toronto (boundaries:  Yonge, Bloor, Don River, Lake Ontario)
• Family Team (LGBT and Homeless/Underhoused Populations): City of Toronto
• Counselling: Southeast Toronto
• Health Bus: City of Toronto
• Infirmary: City of Toronto
• SOY and Parenting Network: Primarily, City of Toronto but no geographic restrictions
• Rainbow Health Ontario: Province of Ontario
• Chiropractic Clinic: No geographic restrictions
• Naturopathic Clinic: No geographic restrictions
• Chiropody Clinic: Chiropodists will service clients who are referred by Sherbourne Health Centre's providers  

Fees

If you have an OHIP card, programs and services are free. If you do not have an OHIP card, but live in the local community, you can still receive primary health care services free of charge. Chiropractic services are not covered under OHIP so a small fee applies. Please bring your OHIP card with you to every appointment.
